Data Breach: Protecting Yourself

Emergencies come in all forms, including personal ones like having your online accounts hacked and personally identifying data stolen and used by strangers. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) offers this little video on What To Do After a Data Breach:

If you think your personal information has been lost or exposed from an online hack, lost wallet, or other scam, you can report it and get help at IdentityTheft.gov. Some clues that someone has improperly used your information:

  • Bank withdrawals that you can’t explain
  • New bills in the mail
  • Debt collectors calling you about debts that aren’t yours
  • Unfamiliar charges on your credit report
  • and more
