Emergencies of the Strangest Kinds

We all use technology as if it were stable and predictable. How often do most of us change our email address? Making sure our friends have the new address, trying to update mailing lists, remembering to change all of our online accounts… it can be a big pain.

If you have an AT&T account that touches Yahoo, you may be in for one of these unexpected changes. TechCrunch reports,

As an old Yahoo contract with AT&T gets unwound amid the formation of the new mega-brand Oath, Yahoo accounts will no longer be accessible through AT&T email addresses (or those of any A&T subsidiaries).

While there is a level of inconvenience for AT&T customers, this is less about net neutrality and more about unwinding those corporate deals.Basically, while annoying, this seems like it’s undoing a previous Yahoo deal with AT&T where the AT&T domains served as quasi-Yahoo accounts — which would include Tumblr.

If you have an AT&T account, watch for notices of a change and see what effect it will have on you. It’s good to be prepared.
