Rolling to Safety

Wednesday, July 26th is the 27th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In support of this, we encourage you to evaluate and practice your emergency plan, especially if it includes any special considerations for access and functional needs.

Here’s the large-print brochure from Ready.gov for preparedness of the variably-abled. Do you have a personal support network that you trust to use emergency gear or meds? Does your community maintain a registry for people with special needs? There’s no help in people knocking on your door with instructions to evacuate if you can’t hear them. FEMA has more practical advice on their site.

Your circumstances and needs will be unique. Think it through, write it down, share your plan with family and close friends. Make sure to include your service animals in your plan and in your Go Bag. They will need at least 7 days of water and food too!
